The Mission
John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John’s Health Center is a cancer research institute dedicated to
the understanding and curing of cancer in order to eliminate patient suffering worldwide. Our mission is
accomplished through innovative clinical and laboratory research and the education of the next generation
of surgical oncologists and scientists.

 |
| Basic Science + Clinical Applications = Translational Research |
Translational research, often called the “bench-to-bedside” approach to scientific
research, refers to the continuum from the development of novel scientific findings
in the laboratory to the application of new approaches for diagnoses, treatment, and
prevention of disease in the clinic for the patient.
At JWCI, the close relationship between research and clinical care, combined with
the multi-disciplinary expertise of our specialists, produces the best science, the best
medicine, and the greatest hope for our patients. |
|
The John Wayne Cancer Institute’s internationally recognized team of scientists relies heavily on private donations for its innovative research, which has led to crucial breakthroughs in the fight against cancer.
